Again this year, we are grateful to receive donations for the Deutschlandstipendium. Click here for information on this scholarship program and how you can support it.

Student Projects

Thanks to many donations, numerous student projects are supported by Alumni Freiburg e.V. Here are a few projects which have been promoted by Alumni Freiburg e.V. so far:

  • Alumni Freiburg e.V. awards annually the Alumni Prize, which is given to students at their graduation ceremony. The prize encourages and appreciates outstanding academic achievements and social engagement. To find out more, click here.
  • The alumni prize for social engagement is annually awarded to students who are exceptionally involved in community work. The prize is presented at the Audimax during the opening ceremony of the new academic year.
  • Field trips are a great gain to every student’s studies. With the help of donations, Alumni Freiburg e.V. supports students with their travelling expenses.
  • Student activity groups including the Uni BigBand or the aka-Film Club create important added value for students, researchers and guests in every day university life.
  • The equipment from the Student Training Center (STudiTZ) under the medical department has been extended through Alumni Freiburg e.V. The new training backpack and medical devices enable a realistic training for students.

Previous Projects

Supporting students and student projects has a long tradition at our university. In our archive you can find a list of the projects which we have supported.

 

 

During the last two years, Alumni Freiburg e.V. has raised with the Christmas and summer donations 70,000 Euros. With these donations, former students of the University of Freiburg support the “Deutschlandstipendium”, the student-led refugee initiative “Schlüsselmensch”, the “Uni für alle”, “Vorkurs für Geflüchtete”, “Wissen+Welcome”, the student telephone hotline “Nightline” and the University College Freiburg. “As chairman of Alumni Freiburg e.V., I am delighted that we can support so many student projects,” said Rector Prof. Dr. Hans-Jochen Schiewer during the symbolic handing over of the check. “My great thanks goes to everyone who donated and contributed to this excellent outcome.”

Deutschlandstipendium

As the last couple of years, Alumni Freiburg e.V. supported the “Deutschlandstipendium” in 2017, this year with 48,695 Euros. The concept: Private donors finance 1,800 Euros each year and the BMBF doubles the amount. Thus, the scholarship holders receive 300 Euros per month. Student-led refugee initiatives

Many members of the University of Freiburg have created initiatives helping refugees. Alumni of the University of Freiburg made it possible to support those projects with 8,750 Euros. You can find a list of the supported projects here.

University College Freiburg (UCF)

As the first German university, the University of Freiburg founded a University College in 2012. The teaching at the University College Freiburg (UCF) is research-oriented and international. It provides students with the opportunity to be introduced to different academic perspectives before deciding on a specialization. Nightline Freiburg

Loneliness, exam anxieties or relationship problems are typical worries of students. Also difficulties at the shared flat, arguments with parents or chronical diseases can become big problems if you cannot share them with friends or family. Since 2002, there exists the telephone hotline “Nightline” in Freiburg: It is an initiative from students for students and has been supported by Alumni Freiburg e.V.. more... (in German)

 

Awarding Procedure for the 2017 Alumni Prize

The following persons/groups are eligible for nomination:

• students/students groups that have launched innovative measures for improving living, studying, and working conditions for students at the university
• students/student groups that have rendered outstanding services volunteering for social organizations

Candidates must be nominated by a full-time professor, an alumni representative, or a faculty council member of a University of Freiburg faculty. Students and employees of the university as well as the Studierendenwerk may propose candidates to the alumni representatives of the faculties or to members of the faculty councils. The deadline for proposals is 15 August 2017.

The prerequisite is that the candidate must be matriculated at the University of Freiburg.

The statement of the reasons for the proposal should not exceed a page in length and must include the following information:

• Date

• Name of the proposed person/group

• A brief description of the social involvement (1 page)

• Name and signature of the person making the proposal

Proposals must be submitted by 15 August 2017 to Mr. Rudolf-Werner Dreier, Managing Director, Alumni Freiburg e.V., Albert-Ludwigs-Universität, Haus „Zur lieben Hand“, Löwenstraße 16, 79098 Freiburg.

The board of directors of Alumni Freiburg e.V. evaluates the proposals and selects the prizewinner in accordance with the association’s rules of procedure. The board is chaired by the rector. Minutes of the session in which the prize is awarded are kept and must be signed by the chair. The board of directors of Alumni Freiburg e.V. passes resolutions with a majority of the votes cast at the session. Each member has one vote. In the event of a tie, the chair has the deciding vote. The prizewinner is then made known to the relevant department in the university administration four weeks before the prize is to be awarded.

The purpose of the Alumni Prize is to show that the university recognizes students who give their time and effort to promote social causes. Please inform us of any candidates who deserve to receive the prize.
